I watched Lords of Dogtown for the first time last night.
Shirtless hippies skateboarding and surfing....
COUNT. ME. IN.
It was such an interesting story! I didn't know anything about these people, or about the movie. To be honest, I didn't even know that it was based on a true story. I loved it though! Seriously, it's pretty high up in the ranks of my favorite movies. I love everything about the 70s. Especially California, the carefree attitude, the skipping school, life was so much more laid back. I mean, everyone was high all the time, had unprotected sex, and cared about nothing except skating, but I digress. I love the style, the fashion, or lack there of, the long hair. This film totally embraced that lifestyle. It also portrayed the dark side of that life, the drug addict parents, the abusive parents, gang life. Even more so, Heath Ledger's character, Skip, completely embodied that lifestyle. I enjoyed his character the most. I feel like his entire role could be an anti-drug commercial. "Kids here's what happens when you smoke to much pot and huff too much paint." It gives you a look at why people make the desicions they make. In the end, I felt myself really wanting to know more about these guys. Where are they now? How did their lives end up? I also wanted to learn to skate for a hot minute, then came back to my senses. I would like to photograph some skaters sometime though.
